A Working Holiday visa is the perfect way for you to discover New Zealand, while improving your English and financing your stay or study expenses with a paid job. To apply you must meet the following requirements:
- Have a passport with a minimum validity of 15 months after the estimated date of arrival that you will put in your application
- Be between 18 to 30 years old at the time of applying. In the case of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, they can apply up to 35 years of age.
- Have a diploma or professional degree from a university or higher institute, or have completed 3 years of undergraduate university studies that must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (only applies to Peru, in other countries it is not a requirement to have higher education)
- Demonstrate financial funds of at least NZD$7000 for your stay expenses and an air ticket to leave New Zealand or the money to buy it at the end of your trip (do not buy your flight tickets before you have the visa). If you present a certificate of English proficiency with the required results such as IELTS (minimum 5 pts in speaking band and 1 pt in any other band), TOEFL (minimum 14 pts in speaking and 4 pts in listening or 4 pts in reading or 14 pts in writing) you will only have to prove NZD$4200, the latter is optional and not mandatory
- Depending on your nationality, they may request medical examinations (do not take them until the New Zealand authorities ask you to)
A great advantage of this visa is that it does not require proof of your level of English through an international certified exam compared to many other exchange programs, such as that of its Australian counterpart, which does require proof of English as a requirement.
Keep in mind that places are limited and the demand for participants is very high; Therefore, if apart from the aforementioned nationalities you also have a German, Dutch, American, French or Italian passport, you have the advantage of being able to apply with those passports throughout the year as of March 14, since they have unlimited places.
Now that you have everything clear, you must create an account on the official website of New Zealand Immigration and pay the fee of NZD$280 for the cost of the visa, with the exception of Mexico and the USA that only pay NZD$35. Processing times until receiving an official response range from 20 days onwards according to the official government website.
When you are approved for the Working Holiday you receive a letter indicating the date on which your visa comes into force, from that day you have 12 months to travel to New Zealand. After you enter the country for the first time, the period of 1 year will begin to run for you to live, work and study on Kiwi’s country
Remember that you can travel the length and breadth of the entire country, in addition to leaving and entering it as many times as you want while the visa is valid.
